Acupuncture is the oldest and most proven form of medicine in the world today. It has been dated back as far as 5,000 years ago.
If you were to break the body down into the smallest substance, you would find that we are made of atoms. Actually everything in the world is made of atoms, so we are not living in a physical world; we are actually living in an energetic world.
Acupuncture works on the energetic level of the body.
The body has acupuncture channels just like blood vessels that go all over the body. Instead of blood running thru these channels, Qi (chee) runs thru these channels. Qi is simply the body’s energy. Each Acupuncture channel is connected to an organ. By inserting small painless needles along the acupuncture channel, the Acupuncturist can put the body back into balance and harmony. Disease is really the body being out of harmony; that’s where the word comes from dis-ease. Over the 1000’s of years of trial and error, Acupuncture has proven that a patient can be healed of all kinds of diseases and pains.
I liken Acupuncture to that of a computer programmer, punching the keys on a keyboard to program a computer. Instead, Acupuncturists insert needles (that are as small as a human hair) into the acupuncture channels to get the body to go back into harmony. Acupuncture is a general type of modality because it can treat all types of disease.
How An Acupuncturist Diagnoses
The way an Acupuncturist diagnoses a patient is by looking at their tongue and taking their pulse. Every person has his own unique tongue, with the tip being the heart. Behind that is the lungs, the center is the spleen and the stomach, the sides being the liver and gallbladder and the back of the tongue being the kidneys and the urinary bladder. Everyone has different colors of the tongue, pale, red or pink. They have different cracks in certain areas corresponding to the organs in those areas. They also have different coats on the tongue; it can be thick or thin, or yellow or white. We also take the pulse of the patient, on the left wrist: the heart, the liver and the kidney pulses. On the right wrist: the lung, the spleen and the kidney pulse. The kidneys play a huge role in the body and that’s why they have two areas where their pulse is taken. There are over 30 different types of pulses, which tell us what condition the organs are in energetically speaking.
By taking all these signs and symptoms into consideration the acupuncturist will be able to put together a point prescription to get the body back into balance thus eliminating the disease. The typical protocol calls for 8 treatments two times a week for four weeks. We follow up with a reevaluation. The body only heals at a certain rate; the number of treatments a patient will need will depend on the patient’s age and lifestyle .
Unlike Western medicine, Eastern Medicine has been around for such a long time that the patient isn’t a guinea pig. Unlike western medicine and drugs, Acupuncture doesn’t have any side effects, since we are just reprogramming the body with its own energy.
